Well about time too I hear you say! Here is the very first in my latest range of home decor items aptly titled 'Homespun Country'. There will be personalised hearts, doorstops, tea cosies and much more to come . . . so for now I hope this lovely little pillow wets your appetite!

I had a wonderful start to the weekend attending a Cookery Master Class at the lovely Trattoria Cookery School - the longest established Italian Cookery School in Wales.

Our Chef was no other than Franco Taruschio who both inspired and entertained the class in a lovely warm relaxed atmosphere where we learnt to prepare attractive, delicious dishes that were truly Italian.

There was plenty of opportunity to ask questions and gain understanding of the techniques used. The very hands-on session also involved tasting all the food that had been made . . . a fabulous time was had, and I'm itching to try out the new techniques i've learnt!

La La's Magic Ball Swap

To kick start myself back into the swing of things i'm going to take part in a wonderful swap being organised by the lovely Lynda over at Hookin' with LaaLaa.

The idea is you send your partner a ball of wool but you unwind it and wind in little wrapped treats every so often. For example buttons, sweeties, choccies, soaps, needles, pins, fat quarters of fabric etc. So, when your partner is knitting/crocheting with the wool, they come across a little treat every now and again . . . what a wonderful idea don't you think? I can't believe how quickly the months have passed! What with one thing after another I've really not had the time or energy to focus on any new designs and have no finished works to show and tell you all . . . but I promise that I will be more than making up for it for the second part of 2011 - watch this space!

Well we've just come back from a break away in beautiful West Wales and I'm thoroughly refreshed and raring to go . . . well that's once i've caught up with all the washing that is!

The first part of the week was spent exploring our new surroundings, taking in the views, visiting local castles, soaking up the sun on the sandy beaches and of course admiring the wildlife . . . sounding a bit tame? Well in between the relaxing the rabble did manage to squeeze in abseiling, tearing down a zip wire or two, go-karting, roller coaster rids and me well I sat on the side-lines reading my Country Homes magazine from cover to cover under the guise of official photographer of course, the most daring I got was going for my early morning run whilst everone else caught up on their rest!

I've most definately shaken off the odd cobweb or two and feel raring to go . . . one step at a time tho of course, I've learnt not to go hell for leather anymore!

Mid way through our stay saw us travelling to beautiful Pembrokeshire and paying a visit to meet the lovely Liz at The Jewellery Junkee.

Wintery Christmas Wishes . . .

For me, one of the best bits about this time of year is turning my back on the high street and seeking out gifts with that wonderful handmade appeal. This year I have found alot of unique items from outlets nearby my home town and have discovered an array of crafters along the way who have in turn inspired my own creativity ~ keep an eye out for a new angle in 2011!

This Christmas I was determined to make more of my own gifts and have given myself a challenge or two, although I didn't manage to comlete my lengthy list of presents I am chuffed at the bundle that I did acheive.

Like many of you we've experienced our fair share of the white stuff down here and have at long last managed to dig the car out, clear the road and lay down fresh grit ready for my treck to work in the morning . . . three days and counting until I enjoy a well earned break with the family.

So that just leaves me wishing you all a wonderful and happy Christmas time . . . see you all in the New Year.

As promised here are two cushions that i've been itching to show you . . . the first in hopefully a brand new range for Christmas ~ I know, not very tradionally festive but I thought I'd add a little twist for my All that's PINK range. The designs are inspired of course by Nancy Halvorsen with a little bit of me added for good measure!

The lovely weather has distracted me a little from crafting today so you'll have to wait until 'next time' before I unveil my Up on the Roof Top Quilt which is definately traditional in both style and colour . . . . keep your eyes peeled!

Where 'o' where have the past couple of months gone . . . i've been lost without internet access and can't wait to catch up on everyones' news and goings ons!

I wish I could say that i've been knee deep in bundles of fabric and design ideas but that would be a fib . . . . everyday life in the 'real' world had taken over but thankfully i'm working by way back to a healthy balance and can't wait to show and tell what I have managed to squeeze in . . . a few new cushions, some mini quilts and a Christmas A to Z Wall hanging to start . . . pop back soon for a peek!

Hot off the production line is a lovely rose and sage version of my Wedding Keepsake quilt hanging ~ this has to be one of my favourite designs to make up!

It'll be a little quiet on the 'blog' front for a couple of weeks as I work on a batch of new designs and also get around to finishing off some loose ends . . . . need to get on the right track ready for the Christmas ranges!

Where have I been you may ask? I've had quite a lot of back orders to finish off and as usual 'life' has kinda gotten in the way ~ ohh to create full-time!

Here I share with you a wall hanging detailed with a design inspired by Nancy Halvorsen. The finished piece measures 12 inches by 16 inches and is adorned with cute little heart shaped buttons which are just so sweet.

Lovingly stitched this particular wall hanging will be making it's way to the proud new parents of little 'Elis Evan' next week . . .

THE BIG CHEESE

Today's outing was set in the shadows of one of Europe's largest Castles ~ the town of Caerphilly.

Each year the town comes to life as people of all ages come to The Big Cheese to experience an extravaganza of street entertainers, living history encampments, music, traditional funfair, falconry and of course craft and gift stalls . . . come on you know me by now!!

The sun wash shining, the company was great and the day was a success all round - to top it off I got to meet up with the lovely Ellen and Jill of Shepherd's Moon who were keeping themselves out of mischief on their wonderful stall.

Ellen is the face behind Shepherd's Moon, a traditional cottage industry run from the hub of her home. Each hand knitted item is created out of yarn spun by Ellen and woven from the loom made by her grandad for her gramdma.

As well as Ellen's gorgeous finished pieces she sells knitting books and CD's by Katherine Misegades . . . Ellen's Mum!

I love how these mini quilt hangings have turned out, so much so I've taken the design (from the Love is Art to Art pattern book) and put something a little different together for a bespoke order of one of my applique pillows . . . pop back tomorow for an update and hopefully a preview!

Two of these little 'Homemade' hangings have been given as my PIF gifts . . . I hope they like them as much as I enjoyed putting them together and the sentiment behind them.

So what's on this weekend? A slightly slower paced one that last week sees my cracking on with the remainder of my outstanding orders today before I start the daunting task of putting together stock for an event I'm attending in the beautiful Abergavenny . . . more to follow on that at a later date!

Tomorrow, weather permitting i'm hoping to visit the 'Big Cheese' event in Caerphilly . . . bring on the sunshine.

Don't you just love unexpected parcels . . . oh yes indeedy!!

Whilst out and about this weekend the posty arrived with some scrumptious new fabrics that go just perfectly with some buttons and thread that I picked up on my travels - it's all in the planning don't you know!

I've got just the project (or two) for this lot but you're going to have to wait until the weekend before I reveal all . . .

To my delight this morning the 'Posty' handed over a parcel from the lovely Charlotte of The Homespun Loft, inside was my order of more lovely heart topped wire hangers and a bundle of scrumptious fabric pieces that Charlotte had sorted through her stash box for . . . just for me! How very thoughtul and generous - I can't wait to share with both you and Charlotte what will become of them but for now, here they are in all there glory!

Off to Abergavenny . . .

Off out bright and early (despite the rain) this morning to sample the delights of the beautiful market town of Abergavenny, situated in the south eastern corner of Wales and only 20 miles from the English border.

Abergavenny is steeped in history and enjoys an enviable position of bathing in the beauty of the Brecon Beacons national park.

As if quietly enjoying the beauty of the area was not enough, there are plenty of sights to see and things to do in and around Abergavenny. Falconry and Craft Centres, a number of impressive Castles and a whole lot more besides.

Pictured above is my Dad in the grounds of Abergavenny Castle which is sitauted just south of the town centre overlooking the meadows of the River Usk. Although the original castle is now largely in ruins there is still a tall stretch of curtain wall to the right of what would have been the gatehouse, originally from the 12th century.

The main reason for todays visit was to experience the Antique and Collectors Fayre in the Market Hall which is held on the 3rd Sunday of each Month, although I have to say there is another trip planned for next month when the Town will be bustling with a different atmosphere as they're will be hosting their 30th Gift and Craft Fayre . . . hold me back!

It's Darling ~ Bath's Vintage and Handmade Fair

The anticipation over and off I went to the much awaited for event to kick start my summer jaunts . . . a trip to Bath (any excuse) topped off by a visit to The It's Darling Vintage and Handmade Fair that i've been telling you all about ~ oh boy it did not disappoint, a perfect setting, grand venue and the most wonderful group of very individual artisians i've had the pleasure to meet . . . and all under one roof!!

An early morning alarm call on a Saturday morning . . . what's that all about!

Today was the day that I travelled up to the historical town of Bath, for those of you in Blogland that have never been it really should be on your list of places to visit ~ and stop over.

Bath is nourished by natural hot springs and offers a truly unique experience that will leave you wanting to plan your next visit before the first has ended . . . stunning architecture, fantastic shopping (I loved the quirky-ness, the little curious shops tucked away in side streets and arcades) and of course not forgetting the iconic attractions.

The perfect starting point of our day was a visit to the Jane Austen exhibition which has been created with the guidance of local members of the Jane Austen Society which I definately recommend as it set the mood for the day, a lovely period atmosphere, contemporary exhibits and books galore!

There are tea rooms a plenty to re-charge throughout the day ~ before setting off to explore the rest of the attractions including the Roman Baths and the fabulously grand Abbey!

And to top it all off if you're in the mood for a little festive shopping you'll not want to miss out on this fabulous little shop . . .

I can't believe I've reached my 100th post . . . it doesn't seem like yesterday that I stepped into the unknown and shared a little bit about me to YOU!

Well I can now reveal a little of what has been going on behind the scenes here at Just for you Designs . . . .

After much encouragement from my wonderful friend Sharon of Nosy Rosie Designs I have been working on a range of paper patterns so that I may share my designs with all those creative people out there who fancy trying their hands at making up one of my Fabric Critters or Raggedy Annie Dolls.

The range will be small to start with as I'm trying to build my little empire whilst balancing a full time career and a busy family life - so please be patient with me.

Look was arrived in the post yesterday, the latest addition to my ever-expanding collection of Art to Heart pattern books, and I have to say this one does not disapoint.

For those of you who haven't yet come across Nany Halvorsens' work you really don't know what you've been missing . . .

Several years ago Nancy started an interior design business, which she states was just another outlet for her artistic yearnings. After first being introduced to quilting by a friend it wasn't long before Nancy was having fun designing and making her own quilts where she was able to pull together her love for all sorts of artistic expression.

So many people asked her where the designs had come from that she decided to try publishing a few pattern packets . . . well it all took off from here and after setting up a successful business in 1992 she hasn't looked back and has loved every minute of it!

What a gorgeous weekend we've had ~ I could get used to this weather you know! This afternoon I headed off into Cardiff to pay a visit to my Dad and went en-route to the Bay to take a peek at an event being held at the Norwegian Church Art Centre which was formerly a Sailers Church, and is one of the landmark buildings on the Bay's waterfront.

The event was organised by Joie de Vivre Boutique who also have a retail outlet that stretches over two floors in the Royal Arcade where a number of regular traders and vintage goods are featured along with must-have homewares . . . I can't wait to visit!

Situated right in the heart of Mermaid Quay and BBC Wales' Dr Who territory is a delighfuly shop that is truly unique! Following the scrumptious aroma of freshly baked Welshcakes I was welcomed into one of the most friendly little shops I've had the pleasure of visiting in a while . . . 'Fabulous Welshcakes'.

As promised here is the end result of my 'garden therapy' in the form of a frienship tote which I have thoroughly enjoyed working on ~ it also follows on perfectly from my previous post as the wording is very apt.

What's next? . . . Now that i've accomplished the 'art' of tote making I think i'm safe to move on and be a tad more adventurous . . . now the difficult part, to make a decision.

I've had a wonderful day out today accompanied by my lovely daughter Sophie and my dear friend Lisa and her eldest daughter Natalie. We headed off for a dose of retail therapy in the town of Swansea where the girls really did shop until they dropped ~ well, that is until they were tempted by the offer of a trip down to the Mumbles coast for ice cream!!

A walk along the front taking in the sea air was the perfect end to a lovely day, topped of by a visit to the grand opening of a brand new shop that opened only just today ~ what luck!

Red House Quilting is situated at 4 Cornwall Place, Mumbles and is stocked full of all the 'lovelies' you'd expect - from fabrics to threads, to notions and crafts - there really is no way you can walk out empty handed!

I have been shall we say under the weather recently and have finally given in and taken some time our from work to re-charge and mend ~ and what better way to do just that than some good old fashioned shopping (all-be-it online), some sewing and mooching through my favourite magazines . . .

The weather has been an added bonus and I have taken advantage of it by relaxing in my favourite spot in the garden - accompanied by my goodies!

Yesterday saw me putting the finishing touches to my first-ever Tote bag, made up from co-ordinating scraps of floral fabrics from my stash to compliment my little party bag - I have to say that i'm chuffed to bits with the end results and have already made headway on the next one . . . with a few designs adaptations!!

I have to say a big thank you to two of my dear friends, Stephanie over at mycalicoheart for the technical support . . . oh to not have that pesky sea between us and the lovely Charlotte at The Homespunloft for the beautiful fabric!

I don't know about you but whilst searching for home acessories with that vintage twist I just haven't been able to find quite what I've been looking for ~ the majority of items that i've found have been rather more 'shabby' than 'chic' . . . and that just simply won't do!

So now I've found myself working on a brand new range of 'Vintage Chic' pieces that I aim to achieve with a timeless quality, ensuring that each piece will adorn any home with pride, ranging from decorative and practical accessories for the bathroom to the bedroom, the kitchen to the lounge and not forgetting the garden.

With Spring just around the corner now is the time to begin creating lighter and brighter surroundings especially as our winter months here in the UK seem to go on for ever!

I've treated myself to two new pattern books and have to say that they do not disappoint - the first is Tone Finnangers' Summer Ideas booklet which is as expected beautifully illustrated and leaves you pondering over which project to begin first!

In this book there are ideas for kitchen and garden angels, colourful garlands and lovely papercraft ideas that are made using the latest Tilda collections using shades of turquoise, green, pink and red.

The second book, 'Quilt a Gift' is packed with 25 heart-felt projects from the quick to the intricate, so if you're anything like me and find it difficult to set aside enough time for those last minute gifts this book is a must with projects that cater for any occasion from a Birthday garland to a house-warming quilt . . . all that leaves me to do now is to choose what to attempt first!

Well, what a whirlwind start to the year . . . . did I miss January! With so many great and wonderous plans for this year both in my homelife and career i've been left a little overwhelmed and really had to rein myself back in to reality!

We're busily finishing off the outside of our lovely house in preperation of putting it on the market in the Spring - I would like to say off to pastures new but we're hoping to do a full circle and go back to 'home' where we'll be back among our friends and family, have a much closer a comute for Stuart's work and there will be much more opportunities for the 'kids'.

We will miss the peace and quite of living out of a big town and that we will be hard-pushed to find such lovely neighbours . . . but there will always be the excuse for a visit afterall!

These plans have inspired the first range of the year . . . 'A gift of friendship' here is the first in hopefully a long line of gift and decor ware, a cute trio of mini quilt hangings.

Crafty Kirstie Allsopp was on back on our screens for a spectacular 3-part Christmas special that saw her create my idea of the perfect homemade Christmas.

In 2009 Kirstie turned her dilapidated Devon cottage from a shell to a chic vision of country living, and in December she took viewers on a yuletide journey of decorating, creating wornderful gifts and tips on how to perfect entertaining!

Kirstie embraced crafts from around the country and her own love of doing up and making do to create the perfect Homemade Christmas.

One of the accomplised crafters featured on the show was the face behind Odds and Suds, Jenny who runs a small business where each product is made by hand in her Ashburton workshop, from soaps made using only natural ingredients, hand creams made from solid bars with extra virgin olive oil that are guaranteed to relieve the tiredest of hands and a wonderful choice of envigorating bath bombs and relaxing bath mallows - there really is something for everyone.

Inspired by Jenny I have promised to treat myself by enrolling on one of her courses set in the beautiful surroundings of the Rill Estate near Buckfastleigh in Devon.

The course offers the opportunity to relax with unlimited tea and coffee whilst learning the art of soap making with a special opportunity of making your own soap to take home . . . sounds perfect!

I know I haven't 'blogged' for a little while but to say things have been a little hectic of late would be the understatement of the year!!

I have at long last finished work for the Christmas Holidays and intend on making the most of each and every minute of it.

The past few days here in Wales have been freezing cold and what with the snow fall and freezing frosts it is very Christmassy and as pretty as a picture - just can't wait for the BIG guy himself and his red suit to make an appearance!!

So my dear friends here's to a wonderful Christmas for one and all and to a prosperous and happy 2010!!

Well although the weather is awful i'm managing to stay focused and crack on with some of my Christmas designs . . . Snowbuddies is a brand new range of stitcheries which will include co-ordinating fabric bunting and stockings but just to give you a sneak previoew here we have a welcoming wall hanging and decorative pillow - the 'Be Jolly' pillow is something I finished a couple of weeks ago but haven't managed to take a decent piccy due to the lack of daylight in my crafting hours!

I just had to show you what arrived in the post this week from my dear friend Sharon, now as a huge fan of Sharon's work and someone who is lucky enough to have an ever-expanding collection of her work around my home I'm always struck for words when I sit back and admire each piece . . . this one which has (excuse the bragging) been painted with me and my long awaited for kitchen in mind and blown me away . . . it is stunning, the wording is perfect and the theme and colours are spot on!

Sharon is the wonderfully talented lady behind nosyrosydesigns although I have been up to visit Sharon and her lovely family in Westcliffe on Sea and have admired her beautiful home and treasures I've not had the pleasure of returning the gesture of a long weekend break for Sharon in South Wales . . . but hopefully we'll get to arrange something real soon!

So until this time Sharon, you'll have to make do with seeing my wonderful sign on my blog in all it's glory!

As many of my friends know, I stay up way too often until some unearthly hour frantically trying to balance a full-time job, the demands of family life and designing and creating new stock - which is at times darn near impossible! So from time-to time I need reminding that being creative is a love and my escape from all the other stuff!

Ah well, another year older and a little wiser as I celebrate that last of my THIRTIES (picture a sulking Lisa not looking forward to turning the BIG 40 next year) . . . please tell me that the saying is true to word!!

Well my week off work has flown by in the blink of an eye and I'm not looking forward to returning to the daily grind next week . . . especially as the children are still off School, i've so enjoyed spending time with them catching up on their 'to do' lists which are not yet finished due to the lack of sunshine we've had this summer.

In preparation for some quality craft time over the coming months i've grabbed myself a couple of new patterns and books which are bursting with ideas to try . . . here is a taster as I share some of the pages with you!

Pretty little patchwork arrived this morning and is bursting with 32 projects to tempt and inspire with a twist of vintage chic.

From pincushions to aprons, to coasters to tote-ally cute bags i'm sure I'm going to be stuck for choice on what to make first!

100 flowers to knit & crochet (best get learning to crochet hadn't I!!) is literally packed with a delightful collection of flowers that can be used to embelish just about anything.

I can't believe how quickly the weekend flew . . . This weekend saw the much awaited for 'get together' between myself and two of my dear friends that i've had the privilege of getting to know over the years through the on-line craft group of very talented lades Crows 'n' Roses, Karen James of The Primitive Pantry http://www.notonthehighstreet.com/theprimitivepantry and my hostess with the mostest Sharon of Nosy Rosie Designs http://sharon-nosyrosiedesigns.blogspot.com/.

I arrived at Wescliff On Sea on Friday afternoon and was met by Sharon and her adorable little King Charles, Riley . . . he is so cute!

The evening saw me having a one-to-one painting class where I aquired the skills and knowledge to attempt a few new projects, although I have to say the amount of work that goes into the actual preparation before you get to the 'fun' stages requires time and patience . . . .

Saturday morning and a drive up to Braintree to meet Karen for a visit to a local village in 'Constable Country', Dedham . . . beautiful countryside, gorgeous old buildings, cream teas and crafts . . . I'm in heaven already!

I have spent what seems like an age putting together a stock of Fabric Bunting but know it's time well spent as this decorative accent is so popular at the moment and can be seen everywhere in just about every colour-way possible!

I particularly love this one that i've added to my Americana range - 'Olde Glory' which consists of raggedy dolls, scented feed sacks, fabric pin wheels, prim sheep and much more . . .

It just goes to show that you should never throw away those off cuts from your last project . . . I kept back all the pieces left from putting my Liberty Annie and bunting together and came up with these cute little patchwork heart bowl fillers, simple and cheap to make but very effective!

Here we have 'Liberty' the latest addition to my Attic Raggedy's collection and the first to be showcased in my 'Olde Glory' Range . . . Dressed in homespun plaid and linen fabrics this adorable Annie measures 14 inches high from top to toe and has been finished off with a co-ordinating bobbin and heart garland . . . so sweet!

Shabby 'Chickadee' Make Do's

I thought I'd share with you the latest addition to my 'Homespun' Decor range, a set of Shabby 'Chick' Make Do's . . . I'm really pleased with them as they've tured out quite sweet!

Made from gorgeous rose bud print fabric that has been tea stained to perfection, each lil chickadee is perched on top of an olde wooden spool that has been covered in a strip co-ordinating fabric.

To finish each bird has a cute little heart-shaped button adorned to each wing . . . can't wait to make up the next lot in my favourite muted Americana tonnes!

Easter Time Wishes

Easter for me is one of mixed emotions, as we embrace a time of rejoicing and the opportunity to spend precious time with our loved ones and families my thoughts turn to my Mum, Josie who passed away 6 years ago after battling against illness . . . amongst many things my Mum was one of the most strongest willed and definately the most courageous person I will ever know, she was and still is my motivation to w0rk hard and succeed in all that I do.

Good Friday has always been a day of reflection for me - and that's exactly what I have done . . .

I will be celebrating Easter Sunday with my family - to all my dear friends, enjoy your Easter holiday and your Spring break if you have one.

A Story of Mothering Sunday

In the 16th century, the Church required that the people returned to their ‘mother’ church or cathedral on the fourth Sunday in Lent for that day’s service. The day became known as Mothering Sunday, not through association with Mothers, but because of the journey made to the ‘mother’ church. In an age when children as young as ten left home to take up work or apprenticeships elsewhere, this was often the only day in the whole year when families would be reunited.

As most of my dear friends know I have recently embarked on yet another attempt to shift my 'cuddly' bits and bravely joined a local Slimming World group a couple of weeks ago . . . OK so the New Year resolutions are a little late being kickstarted off but with so many things going wrong over the past few months only now do I feel in the right frame of mind to really go for it!!

I'm not going to tell you my start weight as I'm too ashamed, it's the heaviest I have ever been and have no intentions of being within this stone bracket ever, ever again!

My first week I was full of enthusiam, and felt very motivated at class when I stepped off the scales after being told I had lost 5lbs . . . what a start, that's it i'm going for it. I weighed in again last night and smiled quitely inside when told I'd lost another 3 and a half! Yep a little over half a stone lighter and ready to go for the next 5 and half pound to my first stone mile . . . of which I have a few to go!

So from time to time i'll let you in on my trials and tribulations and maybe in the not so distant future i'll get to share with you my before and after pics!!

After weeks of feeling uninspired and lacking the serious get up and go needed to finish off my Attic Raggedy Annie Collection I have to say that I am now almost there!

Work is kinda getting in the way so to speak and leaves me with very little day-light at the end of what has been more than a few very long days, very difficult then to try and crack on with sewing when the eyes are so tired.

So, for the time being i'm concentrating on product development and putting designs for the rest of the range onto paper . . .

Last week saw the completion of my latest Annie, she's a real cutie-pie and comes complete with a tiny one sat comfortably on her lap!

I met Stephanie through a community group that I set up a few years ago on Ebay, Crows 'n' Roses a small place on the web where like-minded artists, crafters and business owners can sit a while, exchange ideas and offer unlimited support . . . Stephanie is also the oomph behind me to keep my Blogg updated and as informative as I can as hers is always to beautifully layed out . . .

I love the ideas in this book by Art to Heart, titled 'Easy Does It For Friends'. The featured projects will make a welcome addition to compliment my new range . . . there are 22 fun and easy projects including scented sachets, a table topper, tote bags, quilts, stitcheries, a pincushion, and much more besides . . . the only dilema that I have before me is just which one to make up first!!

'Come rain or shine you'll always be by my side' . . . this is a little quote that my daughter, Sophie came across on a wooden stamp some months ago and I promptly jotted it down in my 'ideas' book - little did I know then that it was to become the thought and inspiration behind my latest range of collectable Raggedy Annie Dolls!

Rather than keep you waiting until all three were ready to show 'n' tell I thought I'd let you have a sneak preview of the first one 'Best Friends', a sweet Annie Doll comlete with pinafore, bloomers, hand-painted lace-topped socks, adorable bunches and not forgetting her 'Best Friend' a cute little Scottie Dog with a hand-stitched nose, little beaded eyes and fabric bow!

HELLO!

Spring is a time for optimism and new beginnings . . . so a few days after our disasterous start to the week I've been pondering on what the coming months will bring.

As my hands are going to be tied for a short while and the internal works to the house are going to be on stop i'm going to concentrate on the outdoors and fancy having a go at producing some home-grown fruit and veg this year . . . i'll keep you posted on that one!

Does anyone else agree that as you get older the day's fly by too quickly - or is this just the result of a busy working mum of three trying to cram way too much into each waking day . . . so no more 'cramming' i'm going to enjoy a slightly slower pace for a little while (with emphasis on the slightly as i'm new to the word slower and pace in the same sentance) and try to do some of the things I keep meaning to do like catching up with old friends, taking the kids and furbabies for long walks along the beach and visiting places to see on my 'hit' list . . . the problem is where to start?

With all this talk of taking it easy I think it's time for a cuppa and then it's time to change into my comfy's and to settle down to with a good book . . . see I'm getting the hang of it already!!

~ Soaked Through ~

Just a quick post today to fill you in on my bad news as it'll have an effect on both my new ranges due to be launched next month and me not being able to update my blog as oftion as I'd have liked . . . .

I woke with a start this morning just before 7.00am, realising I was going to have a mad rush to get ready and out for work in time as my alarm had not gone off . . . oh no not a power cut . . . again??

As I wandered on down stairs I soon realised something had gone drastically wrong during the night as I landed (in the dark as the entire electrics had tripped) ankle deep in water in the main hallway . . . Oh . . . my . . . god!!

The water was right throught the downstairs of the house, I stood in shock for what seemed like an age until I caught sight of my lil furbabies who were huddled together at the furthest part of the house where they had found a dry patch . . . oh bless them I can still their little faces, they thought they had done something wrong!

After an hour of sweeping and scooping and and bailing out we began to realise the true extent of what had happened. Throughout the night a fault with the washing machine (which was not switched on and empty of a load for once) had led to a leak . . . . some leak, it was like damn had broken, the extent of the damage has hit home now after the insurance company has been, the tiled flooring throughout the house which has only recently been completed has to be taken up, the bathroom flooring and utility cupboard has to be replaced, the living room carpet is soaked through, the table and chairs in the breakfast room to be replaced, the fridge freezer, tuble dryer and blasted washing machine and a treasure old wooden cabinet all have to be replaced not to mention the newly fittled skirting boards and internal doors which will all warp through dampness . . .

I know that in the grand scheme of things with all that's being mentioned in the press this is a nightmare that will be resolved and that at least we are insured but boy oh boy can a gal take much more . . . . I can only bounce back so many times . . . .

So my dear friends, I though I'd take the time to explain that I will be hangin up the needle and thread for the near future until I come back through the other end . . . high and dry (pardon the pun).

I've finally made a start on my Attic Raggedy's range of Critters 'n' Dolls, I would like to introduce you to 'The Crow Collectors' lovingly stiched muslin kitties complete with their very own lil prim crows . . . sew sweet!

These dolls were adapted from a pattern from one of my favourite 'Critter' designers Patti's Ratties . . . keep your eyes peeled for my Doll of the Month coming in March entitled 'Best Friends' . . .

I had an unexpected day at home yesterday due to weather conditions and had every intention of being productive . . . although I didn't get much crafting done I did come up with some new ideas for my Mother's Day range, did a little on-line retail therapy and managed to take some lovely snaps of the snow (I won't mention catching up with the chores !!).

It seems as though the festive season is a distant memory . . . why does it pass us by so quickly? Each year I try my best at making the celebrations last as long as possible . . . and then some, as it truly is my most favourite time of the year.

This year i'm pulling out all the stops to ensure that I stay on top of my stock replenishments . . . I'm pleased with myself as i've already successfully completed a handful of new designs to add to my Love & Romance Range which will be stocked exculsively at The Primitive Pantry from the end of the month . . . keep your eyes peeled for a sneek preview!

The Weather Outside is frightful . . . .

I'm tucked up indoors today and have no intentions of stepping a 'toe' outside as it is absolutely bitter out there, instead i've got the tree lights twinkling in the background and i'm perched right by the fire . . . bliss!

Well I know you must have thought that i'd given up on updating my blogg . . . the truth be told that there just has not been enough spare hours to fit everything in!!

Although we are still working on the house and have even grander plans for 2009 (all will be revealed in good time) and balancing (daily) the ever increasing demands of three hormonally challenging teenagers I promise to set time aside to dedicate to my blogg so that you can take a peek at what we've been up to, whether it's the home improvements on the latest piece of fabric art . . . . please stop by soon . . .

This just leaves me to wish you all a wonderful New Year . . . may all your dreams come true!

Feeling Inspired . . .

What a glorious start to the weekend . . . after a couple of weeks of 'everything' going bottoms up from the flood after the awful weather, to a multitude of appliances giving up on me and then to top things off when a gals down I get a stinker of a flu virus which really has set me back some . .

God I sound cheery!!! The house has now been given the all clear by the insurance company, i'm at last feeling a little like my old self and as for the appliances well . . . that's another story, and i'm starting to think i'm jinxed.

The appearance of the sun has given me the boost I needed to get back to the creative side of things as i've been a little idle of late . . . for those of you who know me all to well that's not my usual state ~ honest!

Hot off the production line this week is a batch of witches hats 'n' shoes, a favourite from last year and they are an absolute joy to put together . . .

So what next?? Who knows with me it all depends on the mood, hopefully i'll be showing you a brand new line of dolls and seasonal decor real soon . . .

The recipient of the handmade gift receives something that is one-of-a-kind, and made with care and attention that can be seen and touched. It is the result of skill and craftsmanship that is absent in the world of large-scale manufacturing.

Buying handmade is better for people and the environment . . .

The accumulating environmental effects of mass production are a major cause of global warming and the poisoning of our air, water and soil. Every item you make or purchase from a small-scale independent artist or crafter strikes a small blow to the forces of mass production.

A stitch in time . . .

I'm busily preparing for an event i'm attending in September at a local Nature Reserve, which has involved me sewing until the early hours of the morning . . . luckily for me the kids are all sound sleepers!

It's been a difficult one to prepare for as it's not only a first for me it's the first time the Nature Reserve has planned such an event, with the lack of a Summer and consumers keeping a tight hold of their pennies I've had to keep this in mind . . . I'll keep you updated on my progress and will try and give you a sneek preview of some of the stock i'll be taking along.

So, what's next?? I guess it'll be time to launch my Fall and Halloween decor no sooner that we say 'Back to School' . . . where does the time go?
